Florentine
Florentine Schara is a versatile actress and performer with extensive experience across theatre, television, and film. She has been involved in a wide range of productions, including boulevard comedies, family theatre, dramatic works, staged readings, and dance theatre. As a trained dancer, Florentine has a strong background in movement-based performance and site-specific work.
She studied dance at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts from 1997 to 2000, and later trained in clowning at Le Samovar in Paris from 2001 to 2002. Florentine has continued to refine her craft through numerous masterclasses with renowned artists such as Susanne Linke, Nigel Charnock, and dancers from Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal. Her acting training includes workshops with Larry Moss, Mel Churcher, and Aleta Chappelle.
In addition to her performance career, Florentine has worked as an assistant director at Theater am Kurfürstendamm, founded the children’s theatre company Kolonastix, and taught choreography within the context of community arts at the University of the Arts Berlin. She also leads workshops in theatre, clowning, and physical theatre.
Florentine became a professional clown with RED NOSES Germany in 2009 and joined the Emergency Smile International team in 2017, taking part in her first mission to Sierra Leone. She is deeply grateful for her work with ESI, which allows her to connect with people from all walks of life and travel to places she might never have otherwise seen. Florentine cherishes being part of an extraordinary team of warm-hearted and talented individuals and finds joy in the moments when their work brings lightness and connection.
She has also written and produced a short film titled Mrs Fleischer Wants to Die! and is currently writing a sitcom. Outside of her professional life, she loves cooking.
