Bringing smiles to Georgia: RED NOSES International's efforts for children in need

In recent years, Georgia has become a refuge for many families fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. These individuals and communities have faced significant challenges, including trauma and displacement, which have profoundly impacted their well-being. In response to this pressing humanitarian need, our Emergency Smile team recently travelled to Georgia to bring joy, laughter, and emotional relief to children and families affected by this crisis.

A transformative mission in Tbilisi and Batumi

After a successful mission in Georgia in 2023, our Emergency Smile team returned in March 2024, spending three weeks in Tbilisi, followed by a final fourth week in Batumi, bringing psychosocial support to many children and families relocated to Georgia due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Collaborating with four dedicated partners, including Red Cross Georgia and Caritas Georgia, we reached a remarkable total of 685 individuals, including 564 children and youth. These partnerships were crucial in ensuring that our efforts were well-targeted and impactful.

Our work primarily took place in Tbilisi, where we provided a safe space for children to engage in creative activities. We also ventured out to the outskirts of the city, visiting children living in areas less accessible to humanitarian support. These visits were particularly meaningful, as they offered children living in poor conditions an invaluable opportunity for relief.

Focusing on children from Ukraine

A significant aspect of our mission was the focus on Ukrainian children, who have endured unimaginable challenges due to the ongoing conflict. Through play, and artistic expression, we aimed to provide these children with the tools they need to cope with their experiences and foster resilience.

Overall, the response from the communities we engaged with was overwhelmingly positive. The mission was described as a beautiful experience, filled with laughter and the powerful impact of human connection.

Conclusion

Our mission not only provided immediate relief but also fostered hope and resilience among the children and families affected by the crisis in Ukraine. We are grateful for the partnerships that made this mission possible and remain committed to supporting vulnerable communities through our work.

RED NOSES International will continue to champion the power of laughter and creativity in healing and resilience, ensuring that children in Georgia and beyond have the opportunity to smile again.
